The wind was kind. The kind of one o'clock that says stay all afternoon. Guests filtered in, names ticked off, a cold drink pressed into hands before introductions were finished.
Here's what we did together.
The Pirata Beach Bash is done and the numbers are in. Together we raised €1,375 for the Portimão Soup Kitchen, gained 3 new volunteers, and had a brilliant afternoon on the beach at Meia Praia.

50 guests on the sand at Meia Praia. Beach tennis and cornhole through the afternoon. A raffle, then the big tombola draw, then golden hour. Most importantly, money in the kitchen's account on Monday morning and three new volunteers ready for their first shift.
Fifty people. One strip of sand. A bar, a tombola drum, two cornhole boards, and the kind of golden hour the Algarve does on its better days. Here is how it played out.
The wind was kind. The kind of one o'clock that says stay all afternoon. Guests filtered in, names ticked off, a cold drink pressed into hands before introductions were finished.
Cornhole and beach tennis. No coaching, no scoreboard. A queue formed by accident, dissolved into laughter, and a winning shot got an entire table on its feet.
By mid-afternoon the bar was busy and the seats were full. Friends, strangers, a couple of regulars from the kitchen, all crowded under the wide umbrella. Every prize name got a cheer. Some got a roar.
Ten prizes from local Algarve businesses, each one handed over with a story. The bottle of wine that came with a hug. The hair voucher that drew a delighted yelp. A medal on every podium step.
The light turned. People stayed for one more. Money in the kitchen's account on Monday. Three new volunteers ready for their first shift. The fire faded, the umbrella came down.
A good afternoon. A small dent in a real problem. Same again in August.
